Pactola Road Map

Pactola Reservoir — Exploration Print

This exploration print features Pactola Reservoir in the Black Hills of South Dakota and is one of the first designs released in the Road Map series. Each piece is created to connect imagery with place, inviting the viewer to move beyond the frame and into the landscape itself.

Overlayed onto the photograph is the primary highway leading to Pactola, labeled by name and mapped directly across the scene. The print also marks the general location where I was standing when capturing the image, grounding the photograph in a real moment and a real place. At the bottom of the print, a compass indicates the direction I was facing, allowing the viewer to orient themselves within the landscape as it exists beyond the image.

Designed as interactive artwork, this piece encourages repeat engagement. Whether that’s tracing the road with your eyes, following it in real life, or revisiting the photograph as a visual anchor to the experience. It’s an invitation to follow the road, return to the water, and immerse yourself in the place again and again, both on the wall and out in the world.
