Why I Do Things Differently

Photography has never been about taking pictures. It's about learning to see.

In a world increasingly filled with AI-generated imagery, oversaturated editing, and mass-produced wall art, I've chosen a different path. I don't manufacture moments, I wait for them.

Sometimes that means returning to the same location for years before everything finally aligns. Sometimes it means leaving empty-handed because the conditions weren't right.

I don't chase perfection, I chase honesty. Because the moments worth hanging on your wall should actually have existed.

Standards Matter

I believe extraordinary images deserve extraordinary craftsmanship.

That's why I spent years testing print labs, papers, finishes, and materials from around the world before deciding what would carry my name.

Today, every product I offer is produced by the lab I believe does it better than anyone else.

My signature float frame canvases are handcrafted in Italy because I have yet to find another canvas that matches their level of detail, construction, and longevity.

The same standards apply to every piece I sell.

If it doesn't meet my expectations...

It doesn't leave my studio.

How I got here

Landscape photography has been my dream since I was thirteen years old. Ironically...It wasn't where I started.

I intentionally built my career through portrait and commercial photography because I knew learning how to work with people would ultimately make me a better landscape photographer.

That journey led me through earning my Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Photography and a minor in Entrepreneurial Studies, working with national fashion brands, collaborating with commercial clients, and years spent mastering light, communication, and business.

When I transitioned into landscape photography full time, I wasn't simply learning how to make photographs.

I already knew how to serve people.

That experience shapes every collector relationship I have today.

At the end of the day I don't want to be remembered simply as someone who took beautiful photographs.

I hope people remember that I cared deeply about doing things well, treating people honestly, refusing to compromise quality, and creating artwork worthy of the homes and businesses it would one day become part of.

My faith has taught me that every good gift comes from God. The landscapes I photograph are not mine to create, they're moments I've been fortunate enough to witness.

If my work accomplishes anything, I hope it encourages people to slow down, step outside, and experience His creation for themselves.

Because the greatest view isn't the one hanging on your wall. It's the one that inspires you to go find it.

It’s almost time for these colors again 🥹🙌🏽🍂

I was a couple days into backpacking the Cloud Peak Wilderness with my best friend and had every intention of photographing Lost Twin Lakes beneath the stars. Instead, the clouds rolled in and pretty much shut that idea down.

Thankfully, we had one more night!

The following evening the sky cleared. I headed back out with my camera and flashlight, set up along the lower lake, and captured these 10-second exposures 🙌🏽 What a sweet little treat!

I already loved this place during the day, but standing beside that lake soon after the sun went down, surrounded by the Bighorns with nothing but the stars popping out and shooting overhead was a completely different experience.

Every art festival artist knows these words!

9 times out of 10, they disappear into the festival abyss, never to be seen again. 🫠

BUT… every once in a while, against all odds, THEY ACTUALLY COME BACK. 🙌🏽 And I’ll admit, those are some of my favorite sales. ❤️

No hard feelings either way 💁🏼‍♀️ but if you’ve ever said “we’ll be back” at an art festival… just know the artist definitely remembers. 😂

I’ve spent the last few weeks sharing pieces of this collection and some of the nights behind it, but I’m finally ready to put a date on it.

Northern lights. Milky Way. Meteors. Stormy skies. And a lot of very late nights standing behind a camera waiting to see what the sky would do.

This collection feels different from anything I’ve released before, and I’m really excited to finally bring it together.

After Dark will debut through a limited First Release ordering window, which means the collection won’t remain continuously available once it launches.

More details are coming this week.

Tomorrow I’m setting up my booth for the last time this year!

It’s been the most full art festival season yet! A lot of miles, Airbnbs, artwork packed and unpacked, and so many new faces that have walked into my booth and left as collectors. 🫶 And apparently enough interesting customer interactions to start an entire new Reel series. 😂

We’re finishing it off tomorrow in Sioux Falls at the Sidewalk Arts Festival from 9 am to 5 pm at booth 658 on the parking lots surrounding the Washington Pavilion in downtown Sioux Falls, SD!

Okay, NOW I’m getting excited to release this collection!

There’s something about finally seeing these photographs mocked up on a wall that makes the whole thing feel real. I’ve had these images sitting in my archives for a while, knowing I wanted to do something with them eventually… and After Dark finally gave them a home.

Same scene, two orientations, and honestly I love them for completely different reasons.

I added a little timelapse from that night in the middle too, because seeing what the camera captured is one thing, seeing what was actually happening above us is another.

And naturally, the last slide is me and my dog Loux, who has spent a ridiculous amount of time standing around in the dark while I take pictures. 😂

Colorado looks a little different when there’s 3 of you 🙊☺️⛰️ Our littlest adventure buddy coming soon ❤️

Sometimes the sky doesn’t give you enough warning to go find the perfect location.

The aurora intensified pretty quickly this night, and I knew I didn’t have time to drive hours chasing some epic foreground. So I grabbed my gear and headed for one of the closest dark areas I could think of with enough interesting features to work with. So we landed ourselves at Orman Dam, or what we like to call it, Cabo San Orman Dam Lucas 🪇😂 which gave me some open sky and a whole lot of tree silhouettes. Personally was just grateful I wasn’t witnessing these lights from a Walmart parking lot because that seems to be a trend every time the sky pops off intensely 🫠 Out here working with what I have and seeing what I can create.

The reds were especially wild that night. The different colors we see in the aurora are actually caused by charged particles from the Sun interacting with gases in Earth’s upper atmosphere. Green is typically the color we see most often. Generally comes from oxygen lower in the auroral region, while those deep reds can come from oxygen much higher in the atmosphere.

So when a storm gets strong enough to start filling the sky with reds AND greens like this, I’m probably going outside! No grand destination required.

And apparently after a while, my husband and I decided the foreground needed a couple of human-shaped trees too. 💁🏼‍♀️

These aren’t necessarily the big hero images of “After Dark,” but nights like this are very much part of the story behind it. The chasing, experimenting, documenting and simply getting outside to see what the sky decides to do!

I’ve photographed Bear Butte more times than I can count, but watching the full moon rise behind it last night was something else. 🌕

I spent way too much time beforehand trying to figure out exactly where I needed to be standing for everything to line up, and to my surprise, it actually worked! 🙌🏽 Even when I was pretty sure the cloud coverage was going to swamp the entire plan.

Watching that moon slowly come up alongside Bear Butte right when I predicted it to was so satisfying and just unreal! Definitely worth the planning, the drive, and standing out there waiting for it.

I even discovered a couple of pleasantly unpredictable things to capture along the way!

I genuinely thought I had photographed some sort of eclipse happening that night. 😂 Turns out… nope. 🙃

As I’ve been digging back through my archives for this upcoming collection, I started looking into what was actually happening in this image because it’s way cooler than I initially expected!

That little sliver near the horizon is a young crescent Moon, but you can still see the rest of its shape because of Earthshine. Sunlight was reflecting off the Earth and illuminating the dark side of the Moon, creating what’s also known as the Da Vinci Glow.

And that ridiculously bright “star” right above it? That is Venus. 🪐 All while the Northern Lights were beginning to build across the Badlands as the geomagnetic storm intensified overhead.

I love that I went out that night specifically chasing the aurora, but came home with a photograph that had so much more going on than I realized at the time.

This is just one of many coming out of the bank for my upcoming Collection “After Dark” it only gets wilder from here!

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this part. 🥹

I spend so much time with these images on a screen that seeing one show up BIG, framed, finished and ready to go home with someone is just freaking cool.

And knowing it’s about to be hanging on someone’s wall instead of living on my hard drive? Even better!

Off to its new home it goes 🙌🏽

For years, many of these images have lived tucked away in my archives of my dozens of external hard-drives.

It’s a massive shame that all these images have never had their moment!

So over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing the stories behind some of the most unforgettable nights I’ve ever captured as I prepare to release an entirely new collection dedicated to what happens after dark.

Another Strike of the Sacred officially in its forever home. ⚡️

There’s nothing quite like seeing this piece installed at scale and becoming part of a space.

And I’m not just saying that because I’m an artist.

I cannot tell you how many times someone has reached back out trying to find that piece they saw at a festival months, or even years before!

They took my card. Told themselves they’d think about it. Went home.

And then there it was 🫠 That giant blank wall staring back at them.

Because once you’ve seen the piece that belongs there, suddenly everything else feels like settling.

One of my favorite examples happened recently.

Over THREE years ago, a woman came into my booth at a festival in Rapid City and fell in love with Devils Fog. She loved it enough to design an entire living room makeover around it.

But she didn’t buy it that day. Instead, she took my card, and eventually lost it.

For the next three years, she returned to that same festival hoping to find me again. Every. Single. Year.

I never planned to return to that festival so she never did find me again there.

Until, completely by chance, she walked into my booth at a different show almost 3 years later!

And there it was. Devils Fog!

She finally bought the artwork she had been thinking about all those years, and we finally finished the room she had envisioned around it.

I LOVE that this story got its happy ending 🙌🏽

But three years changed some things.

The original medium she first saw it in had been discontinued. My work had evolved and increased in value. The opportunity she had the first time simply didn’t exist in the same way anymore.

When you find artwork that stops you in your tracks, something you can already picture living in your home, don’t assume you’ll always be able to come back for it!

Artists evolve.
Collections change.
Editions sell.
Materials disappear.
Prices change.

I’ve watched it happen too many times!! SERIOUSLY!

Artwork is deeply personal. When something speaks to you enough that you’re still picturing it on your wall after you’ve walked away, pay attention to that. 👀

Because the right piece doesn’t just fill a blank wall. It finishes something.

And nothing haunts you quite like the artwork you wish you would’ve bought when you had the chance. ❤️💁🏼‍♀️

The Lightning Rod of the Cascades. ⚡️

While its official name is Mount Thielsen, its nickname couldn’t be more fitting! Rising to 9,182 feet, this jagged volcanic spire dominates the landscape north of Crater Lake and is one of the most recognizable peaks in all of Oregon. I mean, can’t you see why?! 😍

This year has been all about diving back into the archives and rediscovering forgotten gems like this one. Oregon continues to be one of my favorite states to explore because every hundred or so miles feels like stepping into an entirely different world. The diversity of its landscapes never stops amazing me.

Standing beneath this mountain, you can’t help but feel how ominous and powerful it is. It’s the kind of place that commands your attention and makes just as bold of a statement hanging on a wall 💁🏼‍♀️

Even the surrounding areas including the lake itself is otherworldly! I can’t wait to go back one day!

Not my typical post, but this weekend was too much fun not to share 🙌🏽

I can’t believe tomorrow kicks off Spearfish’s Annual Festival in the Park! 😱🙌🏼

To celebrate, I had to share one of the pieces that always stops people in their tracks at this show: Bear Butte Morning.

One of my favorite parts of being a landscape photographer is that every image carries a story.

Bear Butte Morning takes me back to September 12, 2019. I had spent the night camping in the southern Black Hills and was heading back toward Spearfish before sunrise. I honestly can’t remember why I was awake that early… but I’m incredibly grateful I had my camera with me instead of watching the sunrise from a Walmart parking lot, which, if we’re being honest, has happened more times than I’d like to admit. 😂

As I drove past Sturgis on I-90, I noticed Bear Butte beginning to glow with the first light of day. I immediately exited the interstate and followed a dirt road, hoping it would lead to a clear view of this sacred landmark.

It did.

As I crested the hill, an entirely new perspective of Bear Butte unfolded before me, completely free of any other man-made distractions. It felt like discovering a view that had been waiting patiently to be found.

Then, just when I thought the morning couldn’t get any better, I turned around…

A rainbow had formed behind me.

Those are the moments you never plan for, yet they’re the ones that stay with you forever. They’re why I keep chasing sunrises, taking dirt roads, and carrying a camera wherever I go.

Now I get to relive that morning every time I see this piece hanging in someone’s home, and I hope whoever takes it home next feels a little of that same wonder every time they walk past it.

There’s something special about celebrating Independence Day in the Black Hills!

Last night, my family and I hiked into the Black Hills National Forest, climbed onto a rocky overlook, and waited for the show to pop off over Mount Rushmore. It was pretty epic and as always, I’m really glad I captured this event from a unique perspective.

Art festival season is officially underway, and I couldn’t be happier!

One of my favorite parts of every show isn’t just sharing new artwork, it’s building the space where you get to experience it.

Every event, I change something. New displays. New layouts. Better lighting. Different combinations of artwork. My goal has never been to simply fill a 10×10 booth, it’s to create a space where you can experience these landscapes up close, and actually picture them hanging in your own home.

Photos online can only tell part of the story. Seeing the texture, scale, color, and craftsmanship in person is a completely different experience.

This year I’m also venturing beyond South Dakota, and I’d love to meet some of you along the way!

One of the biggest mistakes people make when buying wall art is choosing a piece that’s too small for the space because they’re afraid a larger piece will overwhelm the room.

But most of the time, the opposite happens.

I captured this back in 2017 while living out of my Honda Element for months at a time, bouncing from place to place throughout the West with a camera and no real plan besides chasing light and landscapes that made me feel something.

While exploring Arches National Park one evening, I stumbled onto this overlook that seemed to hold everything at once 😍 the layered desert terrain, the arches, and the La Sal Mountains glowing in the distance beneath one of the softest sunsets I’ve ever witnessed out there.

As I fully transition into a new float frame canvas style, I have released a small collection of Legacy Prints. Pieces that have already been produced in a now discontinued format.

These works represent the final available examples in their specific size and presentation. Once sold, this version of the float frame canvas will no longer be available.

This Collector Release includes more than just float frame canvases. A select number of one-of-a-kind framed and matted works are also included, many of which I have no plans to be reproduced in the same way again.

Because these pieces are already produced and ready to install, this release offers a rare opportunity to acquire statement artwork at a more accessible entry point before pricing gradually returns to its standard level.

Collector Release pricing is available through midnight April 28 ✨

After this date, pricing on any remaining pieces will begin to increase every 5 days until reaching original retail value.

All of the available wall art exist as only one piece in that specific size and presentation.

For collectors designing multiple spaces, bundle incentives are available:

Purchase 2 pieces → receive $150 collector credit
Purchase 3 pieces → receive $300 collector credit

Bundle incentives may be applied toward both Legacy pieces and the new float frame canvas style too!
