This exploration print features Pactola Reservoir in the Black Hills of South Dakota and is part of the Road Map series, created to connect photography with the experience of returning to place. This updated version builds upon an earlier design, offering a refined interpretation of the same destination through both imagery and mapping.

Overlayed onto the photograph is the primary roadway leading to Pactola, labeled by name and mapped directly across the image. The print identifies the general location where I was standing when capturing the photograph and includes a compass indicating the direction I was facing, grounding the image within the surrounding landscape. The updated map elements bring added clarity and balance, while preserving the intention of the original piece.

Designed as interactive artwork, this print invites the viewer to follow the road once more—both visually and in real life. It reflects the idea that certain places are meant to be revisited, experienced in new ways, and returned to over time.
