Iron Creek Summer Rain
Captured in July of 2018 at Iron Creek Lake in the northern Black Hills of South Dakota, this image was created in the quiet moments that followed a sudden summer storm. As the rain passed, the landscape transformed. Steam rose gently from the lake’s surface while the setting sun broke through the clouds, casting warm light across the water and illuminating a rainbow above the surrounding ponderosa pines.
What began as a shared camping trip with friends became an unexpected pause in time. One where atmosphere, light, and stillness aligned effortlessly. This photograph preserves that fleeting transition between storm and calm, inviting the viewer into a moment that feels both intimate and expansive.
