Canyon Winer Layers

Spearfish Canyon never stops changing. Especially in the winter which is one of my favorite times of the year to capture this ancient barrier reef. Yes, that is right, this canyon was once a great barrier reef filled with sea life, and today it is a towering jungle of ponderosa pines and one of the most biodiverse areas in the region. In the winter months after a great freeze, these limestone walls transform into ice castles and colorful cool toned eye candy. In February of 2025, I embarked on a canyon excursion to highlight just how brilliant the colors and temperatures dramatically change as the elevation increases. This is just 1/5 in the Canyon Winter Frost series I deemed as print worthy from this particular adventure. These images from this series are not only dramatically bold as individual pieces, but are also grandiose when displayed as a collection.
