Black Elk Peak — Exploration Print

This exploration print features Black Elk Peak in the Black Hills of South Dakota and is part of the Road Map series—created to connect photography with the experience of moving through the landscape by road. Rather than focusing on the trail or ascent, this piece centers on the roadway from which the view was captured, emphasizing perspective, direction, and the act of arrival.

Overlayed onto the photograph is the road that leads to this vantage point, mapped directly across the image. The print reflects the general location where I was standing when capturing the photograph, anchoring the scene to a real moment along the route. A compass at the bottom of the print indicates the direction I was facing, offering orientation and context within the surrounding landscape.
